I’ve had a really rough time reading lately. I have some things going on IRL that are taking all my concentration away from my favorite salga. I have no less than four books started. For some reason, when I saw the description of this particular book by an Instagram friend, I just grabbed my Kindle for instant gratification and downloaded it. I read it in an afternoon and it was just what I needed.
Nina and her young son are on the run from an abusive husband, hoping to make a new start. When a swarm of bees causes her to wreck her car, it soon leads her to make a tenuous friendship with Greta, an elderly woman who owns an apple orchard nearby. She accepts an offer to stay on and make some cash to further her salga from her drástica domestic situation.
At first things seem to be a little off with Greta, but stories are told, truths are realized and soon they develop nothing less than a family bond. Could Nina have found the liberation she craves and the family her son deserves?
The title eludes to a haunting and that is ever present as well, from the orchards and bee hives to the rickety and lonesome old house. To tell more would mezquino some of the surprises in store when reading this emotivo yet not-at-all sappy story. I loved the feel of the book, charming yet subtly spooky. It was just what I needed, so thanks

El precintado de plástico se encontraba en la tapa de plástico pero no en el cartón. Da la sensación que se ha usado. Se está pidiendo hoy un reemplazo de Amazon y rechazo este mismo. Espero que llegue bien esta vez. ..

Opinión de un comprador: This Library of America volume is more of a 'best of' collection than the comprehensive survey that the series often goes in for. It offers two novels plus an original breakthrough collection of short stories and a further section chosen from other short published and unpublished work. The common theme - whether in ghost stories or indeed in pieces about family life (the story about giving birth to her third child) is living in a hostile world. The calzoncillo biographical notes tell us that this was Jackson's own experience. At one time she lived in a 20 bedroom house which was 'an intellectual salon, a poker den and the site of noisy, crowded, hard drinking weekend parties' this was not conocida and it is not the only problem she has with her neighbours.
I enjoyed most the piece about the reception of her story, The Lottery - lots of hostile correspondence and some humorous touches. The major works were not particularly to my taste but I am pleased to have sampled this very different rent take on the world.

Opinión de un comprador: I regalo't scare easily and didn't find the book particularly scary, although I admired the psychology and enjoyed the read, but oh boy. .. This series really shook me up. I think it's because the childhood nightmares triggered recollections of my own, and some of the scenes were pretty horrific. There were parts of this series that were hard to watch. I even had a nightmare after binge-watching episodes 3-6! Honestly, horror films don't scare me much at all but this one did. .. It's good. Really good!

Opinión de un comprador: The Haunting of Bly Manor Opiniones: There are Many, Many Ghosts in this story. (I do not understand reviews that claim is not a ghost story? ?? )
I was put off buying this for ages because of these false reviews and this now annoys me! !.
When I finally bought it, I was very happy, as it IS in the correct genre and it delivers. ..
If you like 'The Others' this is for you. Both the dead and the living see things from their viewpoints. The Place is Very Haunted and the story is complex and tangled, as the events unfold between the dead and the living. The Place has a long history that is explored in the story, and this is a new take on a ghost story you would not expect. There are well thought out answers at the end! It is a Proper story! Sadly Rare now in this genre. ..
No one has mentioned it is a re-imagining of 'The Turning of The Screw' which is surely very important, though it adds much more to the story. 'The Haunting' was reimagined in the first series and it is increíble that another great ghost story has been expanded /remixed again. I sospeché this is a great imaginative journey for writers and watchers alike. Both series deserve 5 stars without doubt.
'The Haunting' is the better melodrama, as the characters are in a harsh concreto world of family break up and PTSD from their haunted house renovation as children. This second one 'Bly Manor' is more of a detailed rompecabezas and a fairytale, so characters are not so much Melodrama and more ghost STORY based. Some of the darker adult content of the original 'Turning of The Screw' has been toned down a lot and just avoided, and without this it has lost its edge. A softer more Americanised younger audience product is the result. But still a great mystery ghost story results. ..

Opinión de un comprador: El libro no tiene DE FORMA PLENA nada que mirar con el proceso de Nerflix. Es más, la adaptación al cine de este texto es “The haunting/La guarida” de 1999. Lo comento para evitar que algún lo adquiera con expectativas de localizar similitudes con la película. El libro no esta dolor, es divertido.

Opinión de un comprador: This book, although good, is not quite up to the mark I inevitably get from Cat therefore I can only give it 4stars. Not saying I did not enjoy reading it as noventa y nueve% of her books are great.

Opinión de un comprador: A very enjoyable read! The first time I have read a book by this author and I always enjoy a scary story based around a haunted house but I would say this was more a story based around the supernatural experiences of a family who moves in to a new home that is actually an extremely old house.
At times it is very sad as the base story surrounding the hauntings is tragic but it makes for an enjoyable and page turning read and would recommend it to anyone who likes a haunted house novel.
I have given it 4 out of 5 stars simply because at times the mother (the story centres more on her point of view than the others) makes poor choices concerning her daughter and it for me was a little unbelievable given the circumstances but this is a individual point of view so please regalo't be put off by this.

Opinión de un comprador: It was obvious from the beginning that the writer takes no pride in her writing. The story was good, but it was painful to read this book because of all the errors, and there were a multitude of them. This is very distracting to a reader who values proper grammar. Far too many to mention, but a few of my favorites - Us (we) Cole women are strong; widower (widow); widowed brother’s wife (brother is dead, not widowed; should be “late brother’s widow”); stomach rolled (roiled) used MANY times throughout; using the word perspective as an adjective; using the word withdraw as a noun; took a turn for the worst (worse); sat (pack); shoot (chute); and at the end a deceased character is suddenly sitting on the porch with someone else. I tried to give the writer the benefit of the doubt, so I started reading another book by her, but the errors were just as bad. Hearty (hardy); donned (dawned); black room (darkroom); faze (phase) awe (aww) galivant (gallivant). This writer takes the time to create good stories, but can’t be bothered to have someone proofread. Such a shame. I won’t be reading any more books by her.

Opinión de un comprador: I found it difficult to rate this purchase but eventually gave both DISCO's 3 stars for the sheer effort put into making them; although I believe, in truth, that the stories told are really only worth 2 stars at most, and here's why.
Both series are OVER long, ponderous and extremely tedious, hence, both could easily have been told in 4 - 6 episodes.
I watched each series twice, the second time with the commentaries, which explained a lot not understood in the first viewing. .. But, if you need commentaries to understand what is going on then surely something is wrong? ?! !
I fast forwarded large sections in a number of episodes in both series without losing any understanding of the overall story.
Now for some individual series comments:
The Haunting of Hill House:
I have read the book several times and seen the original mil novecientos sesenta y tres film several times (I own a well used copy) and have also stayed at the English hotel where the exteriors were filmed. This series is a MILLION miles y miles away from both book and film (to be a little fair, homage is paid to the originals with a few, VERY calzoncillo clips dotted around some of the episodes) If I had not experienced the originals but watched the series first I would not have bothered with either the book or the film! ! .. .Shirley Jackson must be turning in her peligroso! !
The Haunting of Bly Manor: Supposedly pack de in an English country house.
It was painfully obvious from the outset that Bly Manor and its grounds were a construct, as neither had the look, feel or style of an English country house. The whole atmosphere created was not English at all. Those accents! .. .particularly Jamie and Peter (was his Scottish or Venusian? !) and in particular the policemans' accent in episode 2. .. "quite appalling old chap. .what"? ?? !! !
Many other details were incorrect as well. .eg: - the classroom scene in episode 2 showed a small Union Flag on the desk and a larger one leaning against the wall. .. Our patriotism is understood, not flaunted. The wall telephone in the kitchen was the wrong style and incorrect ring tone. The English dialogue was incorrect in many places eg: "is all" instead of "that's all" and so on (you will find many other examples if you do get to watch the series)
There was obviously no concept or concreto understanding of Englishness at all. .. A "spirited" attempt but in the end a Dismal Failure. The only concreto Englishness was the inclusion of the superb, right hand drive classic cars.
LESSON. .. If you are going to make an English ghost story, make it in England, in an English country house with British actors.
Both DISCO's have now been consigned to the charity shop.
